Kingdom chooses ‘The Raven’s Song’ film to represent it at the Oscars

RIYADH — The Saudi Film Commission has chosen the feature film “The Raven’s Song” to officially represent the Kingdom in the upcoming Academy Awards (Oscars) in the category of Best International Film.

The Feature Film was nominated by a special Saudi committee for the Oscars, chaired by Abdullah Al-Eyaf, CEO of the Film Commission, and the membership of film director Haifa Al-Mansour.

Director Hana Al-Omair, chairwoman of the Saudi Cinema Association, director and actress Ahd Kamel, director Shahad Ameen, CEO of the Red Sea International Film Festival and producer Mohammed Al-Turki, and Saudi Film Festival Director and poet Ahmed Al Mulla were others in the committee.

With this nomination, the film will enter the competition with films from the rest of the world and will pass through several screening stages, before announcing the initial and then final list that will be chosen by the American Academy of Sciences and Arts awarding the Oscars.

The winner of which will be announced at the 95th session that will be held at Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023.

Commenting on the nomination of his film to represent the Kingdom in the Oscars, Mohammed Al-Salman, the director, said, “I am very happy and proud that my first feature film “The Raven’s Song” has been chosen to represent my country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is witnessing fast progress that heralds a bright future.” — SPA
