ADEN — The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), on Wednesday in Aden, handed over 150 housing units within the framework of the project "Proper Housing", which comes in partnership with UN-Habitat and Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP), with the aim of improving the living conditions of families in Aden governorate.

The handing over ceremony was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Roads for the Housing Sector Eng. Ali Ahmed, Regional Representative of UN-Habitat in Arab States Dr. Irfan Ali, SDRPY Director in Aden Governorate Eng. Ahmed Medkhali, and UN–Habitat Office Director in Yemen Wael Al-Ashhab.

Medkhali stressed that the development and economic support through SDRPY comes under the directives and interest of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and with constant follow-up from the Supervisor General of the Program Ambassador Mohammed bin Said Al-Jaber, in order to contribute to improving the lives of the brotherly Yemeni people.

He also noted that the project is the result of a partnership between SDRPY, UN-Habitat and AP. The project was part of intensified effort and hard work to improve the lives of Yemenis and develop the living conditions of low-income Yemeni families.

The project contributes to providing proper living conditions for Yemeni families and covering damage to their homes and facilities by ensuring the safety and security of their homes and designing buildings to resist potential risks, in order to provide safe living conditions and create a better urban future.

The project will also include more than 4,000 beneficiaries after the rehabilitation of 600 housing units for low-income individuals in Aden.

The project includes a special program to train Yemeni personnel in housing to contribute to building the capacity of these workers, where the project provides 200 training opportunities in the fields of vocational training, electricity, solar energy, photography and painting.

The project builds the capacity of 40 engineers in Yemen's housing sector, in the areas of advanced geographical information systems, construction project management, specialized procurement and project cost calculation, and technical and economic feasibility studies.

Training in the project includes boosting the capacity of Yemeni engineers and providing vocational training to unemployed youth in partnership with the University of Aden. Engineers from the Ministry of Public Works and Roads have also been trained in project management.

SDRPY has implemented 224 development projects and initiatives in various Yemeni governorates, serving the Yemenis in seven main sectors, namely education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, and capacity building of government institutions, in addition to development programs. — SPA
