Huge quantity of narcotics thwarted in various regions of Saudi Arabia

RIYADH — The General Directorate of Border Guard has announced that it has thwarted smuggling attempts of a huge quantity of narcotics and tablets subject to the regulation of medical circulation in various regions of Saudi Arabia.

The Directorate spokesman Col. Misfir Al-Quraini stated that they thwarted the smuggling attempts in the regions of Najran, Jazan, Asir and the Northern Border.

He said that land patrols have thwarted 52.4 tons of narcotic Khat, and 807kg of narcotic hashish, in addition to more than 475,000 tablets subject to the regulation of medical circulation, as well as more than 145,000 tablets of narcotic amphetamine.

The spokesman confirmed that they have arrested those who were attempting to smuggle this huge quantity of narcotic, noting that they are 421 accused, of which 39 Saudi citizens, 382 violators of the border security system, of them 342 are Yemeni nationals, 38 are Ethiopians and 2 Iraqis.

He indicated that the initial legal procedures against the accused were completed and they were handed over, in addition to the drugs that they attempted to smuggle to the competent authority.
