AMMAN — Three security officers were killed in a raid in southern Jordan, according to local authorities on Monday.

In a statement, the General Security Directorate said five other officers were injured during the raid to arrest suspects in the death of an officer last week.

A suspect was killed and eight others were arrested during the raid.

On Thursday, a Jordanian security officer was killed during protests over fuel price hikes in the southern city of Maan.

Tension has been running high in Jordan amid a strike staged by truck drivers since Dec. 5 to protest soaring fuel prices and living conditions. — Agencies
