RIYADH — The Public Prosecution announced on Sunday filing criminal cases against 591 persons accused of smuggling drugs into Saudi Arabia.

The accused persons smuggled drugs to the Kingdom in 4 months. The Public Prosecution initiated 257 smuggling cases by the drug prosecutions in regions and governorates of the Kingdom.

According to the Public Prosecution, the narcotic size that the perpetrators tried to smuggle amounted to 40 million amphetamine pills, while the weight of hashish amounted to 2.5 tons, and the weight of shabu reached 800 kg.

The control authorities specialized in drug cases in the Kingdom are doing an effective role in investigating and combating the crime of drug smuggling, pursuing the accused, arresting them and seizing narcotic substances at all the Kingdom's land, sea and air ports.
