Eyes of world football on SPL as Ronaldo makes his Saudi league debut on Sunday

RIYADH — Saudi Pro League chairman Abdulaziz Al-Afaleq said the eyes of the world football will be firmly on the Saudi Pro League as Cristiano Ronaldo makes his debut in the Saudi league at Mrsool Park on Sunday night.

Al-Afaleq made the remarks after Riyadh Season Cup match at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh on Thursday where thousands of football fans gathered to watch another charming confrontation between the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo who led the Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal All Stars team and his arch-rival Argentine Lionel Messi leading the stars of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Al-Afaleq said: “The Saudi Pro League was delighted to provide players for the Riyadh Season Cup match.”

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority Turki Al Al-Sheikh crowned PSG team with Riyadh Season Cup after they defeated Riyadh Season's All Stars team 5-4.

“Players from our league relished the opportunity to pit their talents against some of the best players in the world, such as Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Achraf Hakimi, and, of course, Lionel Messi.

“Backed by an incredibly passionate crowd at the King Fahd International Stadium, the Saudi Pro League players truly put in a performance to be proud of that showcased the strength of Saudi Arabian football,” Al-Afaleq added.

“The sell-out attendance on Thursday night and Cristiano Ronaldo’s much-awaited league debut on Sunday is indicative of the huge passion Saudi fans have for football.” — SG
