UNGA president discusses solutions to global issues with Indian leadership

NEW DELHI — UN General Assembly President Csaba Korosi held extensive talks with Indian leadership as he concluded a three-day visit to the country on Tuesday.

The Asian News International said that Korosi met Tuesday academicians at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru city of Karnataka in South India.

In Bengaluru, his engagements included an interaction with scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and a field visit to an IISc-led water conservation project.

He also visited development projects in and around Bengaluru and interact with the UN’s India country team.

Prior to his visit to Bengaluru, he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.

During his meeting with Modi, Korosi underlined Indian role and efforts to reform global institutions and appreciated New Delhi’s transformational initiatives for communities, especially in the area of water resource management and conservation.

Modi also hailed the UN President’s approach based on science and technology to resolve global issues and stressed the importance of reforming the UN Security Council and other multilateral system in a way that reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.

Modi also assured Indian support to his Presidency initiatives during the 77th UNGA including the UN 2023 Water Conference.

Korosi on Sunday arrived in India for a three-day visit. This is Korosi's first bilateral foreign visit since assuming the position in India.

Korosi, a career diplomat from Hungary who served as his country’s permanent representative to the UN, is visiting at the invitation of Jaishankar.

Upon his arrival, Korosi tweeted: "Namaste, India. Glad to be in New Delhi, to commence my first bilateral visit as PGA.”

Besides holding talks with Jaishankar on key multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

They discussed several issues of global importance especially the UN reform, the Ukraine conflict and the G20 agenda. He also was assured New Delhi’s full support in developmental progress and reformed multilateralism.

Korosi interacted with senior officials of NITI Aayog and India’s G20 presidency team to explore the scaling up of the country’s best practices.

On Monday, he delivered a public address at the Indian Council of World Affairs on his presidency theme of “Solutions through solidarity, sustainability and science in the UN”. — Agencies
