Survey names Modi most popular world leader, ahead of Biden, Sunak

NEW DELHI — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the world’s most popular leader with an approval rating of 78 percent. This was revealed in a Global Leader Approval Ratings released by a US=based consulting firm Morning Consult.

Modi has been named the world’s most popular leader for the second time in a row by the US-based global leader approval tracker.

The survey showed Modi had an approval rating of above 75 percent of India’s adult population. He is followed by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Swiss President Alain Berset among others.

Modi has left behind world leaders that include US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Biden received an approval rating of 40 percent each and secured seventh and ninth positions, respectively. Sunak occupied the 13th spot with an approval rating of 30 percent.

The survey by the political intelligence company positioned Modi in the list of most popular world leader with approval rating of over 75%.

The political intelligence company Morning Consult released a list of world leaders trending on the basis of their approval ratings among 22 nations that it surveyed.

“The latest approval ratings are based on data collected from Jan. 26-31, 2023. Approval ratings are based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, with sample sizes varying by country,” said the official website.

The list keeps on getting updated. Out of the 22 countries, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida rank among last three.

According to the data shared on the organization’s website, 78% of people approve of Modi while 18% disapprove of him. Modi’s approval rating has increased in recent days, standing at 79% in the third week of January. — Agencies
