AL-KHOBAR — The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced on Sunday the arrest of an Asian woman working in a men’s barber shop in the city of Al-Khobar in the Eastern Province.
Saad Al-Hammad, spokesman of the ministry, said that the field inspection teams from the ministry’s Al-Khobar branch raided the barbershop. He said that the ministry officials inspected the shop after noticing a commercial advertisement in which it was mentioned that there is a female worker providing services to customers in the salon.
“This was in violation of the Unified Regulation of Women’s Work Environment in the private sector, which was published on the ministry’s website. The regulation stipulates that the employer is not allowed to employ women in establishments designated only for men customers such as men’s sports clubs and men’s barber shops,” he said while urging the public to report any such violations through the ministry’s electronic application.
