SDRPY, AGFUND, and SELAH open solar energy-powered drinking water projects in Yemen

LAHJ — The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), and the Selah Foundation for Development (SELAH) inaugurated in Lahj a project to provide drinking water powered by solar energy within the renewable energy project to improve the quality of life in Yemen.

The inauguration, which was attended by senior Yemeni officials, aims to operate 12 drinking water projects in 11 beneficiary districts in three governorates; (Hadramout — Abyan — Lahj), benefiting about 58,500.

Director of the SDRPY Office in Yemen, Eng. Ahmad Madkhali explained that the SDRPY and AGFUBD aim to create an effective partnership with the SELAH Foundation to implement a project to use renewable energy and improve the quality of life in Yemen.

This they hope to do through solar energy systems to operate potable water projects in many Yemeni governorates and meet the needs of basic and vital sectors in Yemen, adding that the project will contribute to providing fresh and safe water sources through utilizing clean and renewable energy.

Dr. Omar Nasser Bajabaa, manager of the project to use renewable energy to improve the quality of life in Yemen, highlighted the importance of this project in Lahj governorate, which will benefit about 20,000 people from Lahj governorate and contribute to alleviating their suffering in obtaining drinking water.

The project will also give a qualitative leap in raising the operational efficiency of drinking water projects in the governorate. — SPA
