RIYADH — Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi has approved the amendment of the executive regulation of the Saudi building code application law.

Umm Al-Qura newspaper stated on Friday that Dr. Al-Qasabi has approved the amendment of the executive regulation, which aims to set the minimum requirements and conditions that achieves safety and public health through durability and stability of buildings and facilities, while considering full access to them.

This will also include the provision of a healthy environment, adequate lighting and ventilation, rationalizing water and energy, and protecting lives and property from the dangers of fire, earthquakes and other risks associated with buildings.

The Saudi building code application law has assigned several monitoring and regulating tasks to various agencies, in order to guarantee an effective and correct application of the code's requirements and conditions in a way that serves and benefits the public interest.

The code will contribute in controlling the urban development in Saudi Arabia, and finds a unique urban environment in all Saudi cities.

The requirements of the Saudi building code application law are the design details and methods of implementation, construction and identification of the standards that are considered the basis and reference in application of the code.

According to the Saudi Building Code National Committee, the provisions of the code include the procedures and controls of building licenses, and the preparation of engineering plans and their requirements for buildings and Installations, which constitute an integral part of the requirements.
