February 25, 2023

LAGOS — Officials begin to count votes in Lagos as polls close in the Nigerian capital.

In Africa’s most densely populated country with a total of 220 million people, 87 million were eligible to vote for their next president.

The elections took place under tight security measures. Armed militias are active in some parts of the country, including the Boko Haram.

Nigeria’s borders were closed on election day and, with a few exceptions, cars were not allowed to drive either. Turnouts varied with regions.— Euronews
