Saudi show jumping team qualifies for Paris Olympics

DOHAThe Saudi show jumping team has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 after winning first place in the Group G qualifiers at the Doha International Show Jumping Championship, which kicked off here on Monday.

The Green Knights were able to snatch the qualification card after making an outstanding performance among the participating teams. The Saudi show jumping team was represented by the Olympic riders Ramzi Al-Dahami and Abdullah Al-Sharbatly, along with riders Abdul Rahman Al-Rajhi and Khaled Al-Mabti.

The two-day championship, organized by Qatar Equestrian Federation & Modern Pentathlon, is being held at Longines Outdoor Arena in Al-Shaqab. The participating countries in the tournament include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Jordan, UAE, Egypt, and Syria.

On his part, Prince Abdullah bin Fahd, president of the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation, congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and Minister of Sports Prince Abdul Aziz bin Turki Al-Faisal for this great achievement and success for the Kingdom’s equestrian sport.

“Thanks to God and then to the great support given by the wise leadership to the nation’s sport to achieve this. Show jumping and equestrian sports, in general, received generous support from the wise leadership, and follow-up and attention from the minister of sports, as this contributed to qualifying for the Olympics after winning first place,” he said.

Prince Abdullah affirmed that the federation seeks to continue making the best achievements worthy of the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “I congratulate our heroic knights for the wonderful achievement today, as we congratulate all the Saudi people for achieving this, and, God willing, we will score wins in the Paris Olympic Games 2024,” he added.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi show jumping team previously bagged the bronze medal in the London Olympics of 2012. Khaled Al-Eid won the bronze medal in Sydney Olympics in 2000.
