SYDNEY — Australian police on Thursday charged an Indian national with murder after his arrival from New Delhi, local media said.

Rajwinder Singh, 38, was extradited from India and arrived in Cairns via Melbourne on Wednesday after being flown from the Indian capital accompanied by detectives.

Police in Victoria presented him in court for extradition to Queensland and told the magistrate that they had DNA evidence matching with Toyah Cordingley murder, according to ABC News.

He is expected to appear before the Magistrates Court in Queensland on Friday on one count of murder.

Singh was handed over to Australian officers at Delhi's international airport by Indian police on Tuesday night local time.

"We are very relieved to be at this point, and we will now start the judicial process," Detective Inspector Sonia Smith was quoted as saying by the broadcaster.

Singh flew to India after the alleged murder of Toyah Cordingley, 24, in October 2018. —
