RIYADH —
Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), has revealed plans to launch two chess league tournaments for clubs and schools in Saudi Arabia soon. However, he did not specify the time when the tournaments would begin.

Al-Sheikh said through his official account on Twitter that the launch of chess leagues for clubs and schools comes within the support of Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal.

He confirmed that they will soon organize chess games in schools in cooperation with and support from Education Minister Yousef Al-Benyan.

Riyadh witnessed a huge turnout of people, especially children, last week to watch the Chess Competition in Arena Boulevard.

The tournament was organized following the regulations and systems of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) of the Swiss system.

The participants were competing through nine rounds, based on the rapid chess system (Fisher) with a time of 15 minutes with 10 seconds for each move by all players.
