Several ministry officials among 142 arrested over corruption

RIYADH — The Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) announced on Tuesday that a total of 142 people were arrested over corruption charges during the current month of Sha’ban. The arrested persons included employees from several ministries while some of them were released on bail.

The charges against them included bribery, abuse of power, money laundering, and forgery, and the legal procedures against them are being completed before referring them to the judiciary.

The Nazaha said that its officials carried out a total of 1631 inspections on several government facilities and probed charges against 251 suspects. They included officials from the ministries of interior, defense, National Guard, foreign affairs, municipal and rural affairs and housing, health, education, human resources and social development, Islamic affairs, call and guidance, in addition to those from the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority.

The authority called on the public to report any suspicious dealings related to financial or administrative corruption by contacting via the toll-free number 980 or Nazaha’s website https://nazaha.gov.sa/Services/ApplyReports, saying that this measure is out of its keenness to protect and safeguard public money.
