RIYADH —
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has seized more than 11 tons of food products.

This resulted within the SFDA's monitoring tours, which covered all Saudi regions, to check on food products mostly consumed during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Authority has stated that its inspectors have conducted 719 tours to warehouses and food distribution centers, in addition to retail and wholesale stores.

The inspectors have penalized 69 establishments and seized more than 11 tons of Ramadan food items.

SFDA revealed that most of the violations were poor storage, products of unknown origin, and the tampering of nutrition labels.

Absence of expiry dates on product labels, poor handling of food products and lack of proper covering for meat items were among other violations.

The authority has called on all consumers to report any violations that they come across by calling the unified number 19999, or via the tameni app.
