RIYADH — The General Directorate of Traffic (Muroor) has revealed the penalties that will be imposed on violators of traffic instructions regarding making way for ambulances.

The Muroor said that it is important to give priority to ambulances on the roads, noting that not giving way for them is considered a traffic violation, and its penalty is a financial fine ranging between SR1,000 to SR2,000.

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) stressed earlier the necessity of making way for ambulances, as this act would be instrumental in saving a lot of people’s lives.

The authority clarified the steps that the drivers must take if an ambulance is around them, noting that in the event that the traffic and roads are clear, then they must give way to the left lane.

While if the road has two lanes, drivers must give way in the middle of the road by moving to the far right or far left.

But if the road has 3 lanes or more, the vehicles in the right and middle lane must move to the far right, and the vehicles in the left lane should be moving to the far left.

It is noteworthy that the SRCA, in cooperation with the Muroor, announced the launch of an app for automatic monitoring and recording of violations related to causing obstruction to the movement of ambulances by not giving way to them.

The monitoring by the app came into effect on Sunday, March 26, and it will also record among other violations motorists following the path of ambulances rushing to their destinations,

The launching of the app aims to preserve lives, enhance traffic safety and raise the percentage of drivers’ compliance with the specific lanes. This contributes to raising the quality and efficiency of ambulance services.
