RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior has announced that no licenses for firearms will be issued to anyone with a criminal record. This is one of the terms and conditions for obtaining a license to carry or own firearms and hunting weapons. The ministry also revealed the circumstances under which licenses will be canceled.

According to the General Directorate of Public Security, the applicant must be a Saudi citizen aged 22 or above. An application form shall be filled out requesting the license.

The applicant shall be free from security restrictions that prevent him from being granted with a license. Also he should not be inflicted with any disability or disease that prevents him from using weapons. The conditions stipulate that no modification has been made to the components of the weapon for which the license is sought, or its mechanism of action or information.

The license will be canceled in case the security authorities decide to confiscate arms and ammunition, the licensee loses one of the conditions for obtaining the license, the licensee dies, or loses his qualification to acquire and carry a weapon.
