RIYADH — The Shoura Council has suggested establishing an aeromedical evacuation authority to enhance the quality of the emergency medical services by providing critically-ill patients access to advanced medical care.

The Shoura adopted a proposal to codify the procedure, which depends on special systems, based on the importance of cases.

The proposed project to give the beneficiaries access to critical medical care at the right time will lead to reducing the incidence of critical cases, and the percentages of disabilities and complications resulting from emergency situations, such as accidents and diseases that affect the lives of individuals and society.

The Shoura proposal comes within the framework of strengthening a clear system for the provided medical service.

It will also set up a specified reference will regulate this important sector facilitating the movement of patients, instead of referring them to other authorities that might delay or disrupt the evacuation process.

Medical air evacuation in Saudi Arabia is one of the healthcare services provided by the Armed Forces under the Ministry of Defense. It transports patients as well as organs for transplantation.
