JEDDAH — The Jeddah Municipality has announced the completion of over 88% from the operations of the rainwater drainage solutions project on Haramain Road.

The undersecretary of the Rainwater Drainage Program Ghassan Al-Zahrani said that the total cost of the project, which is located in the Haramain Road (part one) in Al-Nakhil neighborhood in the area from King Abdullah Road to Palestine Road, is estimated at more than SR93.442 million.

The project covers a total area of about 5.76 square km, he said, adding that it aims in conducting rainwater drainage solutions for the entire Al-Nakheel neighborhood, and the north of Abruq Ar Rughamah, extending to Palestine Street.

Al-Zahrani explained that the operation is being carried out through the use of the open excavation method, as it included the construction of 6 sub-networks, whose average length reaches to 16.4 km.

The sub-networks mainly depend on the rainwater drainage, which relies on the natural earth's tilt to the course of the channel extending from the Umm Al-Khair dam. The operations will also include installation of 181 manholes, and 227 drainage catch basin.

He also said that two lifting stations with a diameter of 7 meters and a depth of 11 meters have been established, noting that each station contains 3 pumps, with the aim of ensuring that the largest amount of flows and water discharges in low areas are lifted directly to the canal.

Al-Zahrani confirmed that more than 185 workers are working on the implementation of the rainwater drainage solutions project.
