RIYADH — The Public Prosecution confirmed that all pharmacists who dispense drugs containing narcotic substances or psychotropic substances without a medical prescription will be jailed.

The imprisonment period for the violating pharmacists would be not less than 5 years and not exceeding 15 years, the Public Prosecution said.

It has noted that the medical prescription must be approved by a doctor, veterinarian, or a dentist, who are licensed to practice the profession in Saudi Arabia.

The Public Prosecution has confirmed this according to what is stipulated in Articles 29 and 38 of Saudi Arabia's Law of Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances.

This comes coinciding with Saudi Arabia continuing its ruthless war on drugs.

As part of this battle, the Kingdom had launched earlier a campaign aimed at combating the spread of drugs, foiling attempts to smuggle in drugs and eliminating the sources of financing this scourge, which targets certain age groups, mostly the younger generation.
