Arab ministerial liaison group on Sudan holds meeting in Jeddah

JEDDAH — The Arab ministerial liaison group on Sudan held its first meeting Wednesday ahead of the upcoming Arab Summit in Jeddah on May 19.

During the meeting, the group members listened to a presentation by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan on the developments of the talks sponsored by his country in Jeddah, said the spokesman of the Arab League Secretary-General Jamal Rushdi.

The talks in Saudi Arabia aims for achieving stabilizing in Sudan between the two conflicting parties in order to give civilians, especially in Khartoum, the opportunity to obtain necessary aid, Rushdi quoted Prince Faisal as saying.

He noted that Secretary-General of the League Ahmad Aboul-Gheit stressed the importance of the parties' commitment to the truce as a prelude to achieving a comprehensive ceasefire.

The group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, aims to reach a complete and sustainable ceasefire between conflicting parties in Sudan.

It addresses the causes of the crisis in a way that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and their stability and security. — Agencies
