RIYADH — A surgical team, led by Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, began a surgery to separate Nigerian conjoined twins Hassana and Hasina, children of Omar Rayano, here Thursday morning.

The surgery is being carried out with the participation of 35 consultants, specialists, nursing and technical personnel at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh.

Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the surgery, which is being carried out under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, is expected to be performed through eight stages and will take about 14 hours.

The twins were born in Kaduna, Nigeria on January 12, 2022. They share the abdomen, pelvis, liver, intestines, urinary and reproductive system, and pelvic bones, Dr. Al Rabeeah said.

He added that the Saudi program for the separation of Siamese twins has supervised 130 cases from 23 countries over 33 years and separated 55 cases, and this is the 56th case. — SPA
