JEDDAH — Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has said the Arab League's work system and mechanisms "must be developed", stressing the need to prevent foreign interference in Arab affairs.

In his speech to the 32nd Arab Summit in Jeddah, the Syrian President stressed that the Arab League should develop new strategies, mechanisms and common goals to establish future plans for joint Arab action.

"We are facing a historic opportunity to rearrange our situation," said Al-Assad, adding that hope is increasing with Arab-Arab rapprochement and the launch of a new phase of joint action.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his efforts for Arab reconciliation.

The Syrian President also thanked Arab leaders and delegations for welcoming Syria back to the Arab League. — SG
