MADINAH — The Madinah Region Development Authority (MDA) has introduced smart devices that work automatically to diffuse fragrant aromas into the air on the sidewalks and pathways used frequently by pilgrims visiting the Prophet’s Mosque.
The smart air fresheners are also placed in the seating areas near stores on the northern side leading to the mosque.
The Saudi Press Agency has monitored scenes created by the Humanizing Cities initiatives and projects implemented by the authority in the service of visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque;
These projects are part of the authority’s efforts to improve the urban landscape around the mosque area, and turn it into an attractive environment for pilgrims and visitors.
In the implementation of the new projects at the central area, materials that contribute to reducing high temperatures were used, trees were planted alongside roads, benches and seating areas were provided, and sidewalks and pedestrian pathways were paved with non-heat absorbing marble.
Unauthorized public vehicles are not allowed to enter the central area, to maintain cool temperatures. All routes and pathways between the hotels in the area and the mosque courtyards are open to facilitate pedestrian movement.
At the same time, 245 umbrellas with misting fans cooling open spaces are spread across the northern, southern and western squares of the mosque. All these efforts are exerted to provide a healthy and safe environment for pilgrims and visitors. — SPA
