Work progressing steadily in second phase of Yemen renewable-energy

July 16, 2023

ADEN — A technical team from the renewable energy project aimed at improving the quality of life in Yemen recently conducted a progress check on the project’s second component.

This phase involves the implementation of 35 solar-powered water pumping stations across the governorates of Hadramout, Abyan, and Lahj in Yemen. The stations will benefit a total of 1,050 individuals or 149 families.

The project receives contributions from three entities: the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY), the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), and the Sela Foundation for Development.

The solar-powered water pumping stations will primarily serve agricultural purposes and will be established in nine districts known for cultivating strategic crops, including grains, fruits, vegetables, and fodder.

This initiative aims to enhance food security and promote sustainable food production.

AGFUND, established in 1980 with the support of the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, is a regional organization dedicated to addressing human development problems and targeting all segments of society without discrimination.

The Sela Foundation for Development, recognized for its outstanding work, was awarded the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development in 2019 in the category of “clean water and hygienic health,” which aligns with the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals.

SDRPY has been instrumental in implementing 229 development projects and initiatives across various Yemeni governorates.

The program focuses on seven key sectors: education, health, water, energy, transport, agriculture, fishery, and building the capacity of government institutions and development programs. Its efforts are directed towards serving the Yemeni people and improving their quality of life. — SPA
