Expatriate undergoes successful cheekbone reconstruction surgery

JEDDAH — A Saudi medical team, specialized in maxillofacial surgery, has succeeded in reconstructing the fractured cheekbone of a young expatriate through a four-hour long surgery.

The Ministry of Health stated that the young man had multiple serious fractures in the facial bones and shattered cheekbone due to a road accident.

The expatriate was admitted to the emergency department of King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah. Medical examinations showed the presence of multiple serious fractures in the facial bones. Subsequently, the maxillofacial surgery team was called in to deal with the case and work out appropriate treatment plan urgently.

The ministry indicated that an integrated medical team was immediately formed and all medical and radiological diagnostic examinations were completed. It was diagnosed that the young man sustained multiple fractures in the facial bones and cheekbone and lacerated wounds in the face. The patient had undergone an urgent operation to reconstruct the entire cheekbone, as well as to fix facial fractures and suture facial wounds cosmetically. The patient was discharged after full recovery and stabilizing his health condition.

The ministry stated that the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah performed 68 operations during the first half of 2023.
