JEDDAH — Al-Ahli has formally embraced Spanish talent Gabriel Veiga, marking a significant transfer from Spain’s Celta Vigo. The 21-year-old’s arrival has been solidified with a three-season contract, binding him to the club until 2026.

Veiga’s transition to Al-Ahli is of notable consequence, with the club publicly heralding the signing on their official platform, “X”.

The announcement resonates, describing him as a “Spanish gem,” accompanied by glimpses from the signing event held in Paris, the capital of France.

Undergoing successful medical assessments in Paris, Veiga inked the deal with the presence of Yazan Al Sharif, CEO of Al-Ahli Club Company.

This move amplifies Saudi football’s vigor this summer, as Veiga is being eyed as a prospective captain for the Spanish national team.

Observers anticipate his eventual progression to a higher-tier European club for participation in the UEFA Champions League.

Al-Ahli’s summer has been marked by a flurry of acquisitions. Initiating with the addition of Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Chelsea FC in England.

They followed up with Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, and Saint-Maximin. Their ranks were further enriched by Brazilian Éverton and Ivorian Frank Kessié from FC Barcelona, along with Turkish player Merih Demiral.

The Saudi Professional League commenced dynamically for Al-Ahli, guided by German coach Matthias Jaissle.

Currently sharing the top spot with arch-rivals Al-Ittihad, both teams have secured full points. Al-Ahli’s victories against Al-Hazm, Al-Khaleej, and Al-Akhdoud set an assertive tone for the upcoming season.
