Developments witnessed by Saudi Arabia strengthened its efforts to protect human rights: HRC chief

RIYADH — Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) President Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri said that the developments witnessed by Saudi Arabia in several fields have strengthened its efforts to protect human rights in various aspects of life.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri's statement came during her meeting with Lord Tariq Ahmad, UK minister for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and the United Nations, during her official visit to the United Kingdom.

During the visit, the HRC president highlighted the historical reforms and legislative developments that the Kingdom has witnessed in the field of human rights since the adoption of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

This is in light of the great care and interest that the field of human rights is witnessing from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman.

The two sides also discussed a number of topics of common interests, and ways of enhancing cooperation in the fields of human rights.

This is in addition to discussing bilateral relations in various fields, as well as exchanging ideas and learning about the experiences of both sides in protecting human rights and combating human trafficking crimes.

On the sidelines of her visit to the UK, Dr. Al-Tuwaijri gave a lecture at the headquarters of the British Foreign Ministry in the presence of a number of officials and interested parties.

During her lecture, she discussed the most prominent future trends in the performance of the Human Rights Commission.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri also highlighted a number of goals at the national and international levels that the HRC seeks to achieve.

This is in addition to the commission's tools in protecting human rights, as well as the development that Saudi Arabia has witnessed in this field.
