RIYADH
— Saudi Arabia has emerged as a global player in coffee consumption, ranking among the top 10 countries worldwide. Recognizing the economic potential of this beverage, the government has initiated various programs to support and enhance coffee cultivation in the Kingdom.

At present, Saudi Arabia boasts over 400,000 Arabica coffee trees, yielding an impressive annual output of more than 800 tons. The regions of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha contribute significantly to this production, with an ambitious sector development plan targeting the planting of 1.2 million coffee trees by 2026.

Celebrating International Coffee Day on October 1, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture highlighted the Kingdom's commitment to the coffee industry. The Southern Region alone hosts more than 2,535 coffee farms, including over 500 model coffee farms. The ministry is dedicated to increasing coffee production, focusing on crops with high economic returns.

Efforts are underway to position 15 provinces in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia as significant sources of high-quality Arabica coffee. This strategic initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to bolster coffee production in support of the national economy.

To foster the growth of the coffee sector, the ministry has launched various initiatives and programs, including support from the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (REF) to enhance the production, manufacturing, and marketing of Arabica coffee. Additionally, an investment agreement has been signed for the establishment of the Kingdom's first coffee city.

Highlighting the cultural significance of coffee, Saudi Arabia has secured a spot for it on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.

Recognizing the sector's importance, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has been directed to launch the Saudi Coffee Company, further investing in this vital industry that holds special significance among Saudis and the Kingdom's guests. Saudi Arabia aims not only to satisfy local coffee cravings but also to become a global hub for quality coffee production and innovation.
