HRC experts: Saudi Arabia, a regional and global model of care for the elderly

RIYADH — The Human Rights Commission (HRC) organized at its headquarters in Riyadh a seminar titled “Rights and Care for the Elderly”, held on the occasion of the Arab Day for Older Persons.

The Arab Day for Older Persons is celebrated this year for the first time since it was adopted to be observed annually on Oct. 10.

The seminar held under the patronage of Human Rights Commission President Dr. Hala Bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri; specialists from government sectors, civil society institutions and other concerned parties participated.

Experts at the seminar commended the great care for the elderly in the Kingdom under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, and due to the direct interest and support of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman.

Participants said that care for the elderly is also reflected in the laws and legislation issued for this purpose, including “The Elderly Rights and Care Law”.

They talked about the possibilities, visions, strategic plans and content in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 pertaining to caring for and protecting the elderly, and improving the quality of their lives through programs and initiatives.

They also emphasized that the Kingdom is considered a global example of care for the elderly and upholding their rights. — SPA
