SAMARKAND — Saudi Arabia has been elected as the president of the "Redesigning Tourism for the Future" task force by the Executive Council of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The decision was made at the 120th Executive Council meeting held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, showcasing Saudi Arabia's significant standing and influence in the global tourism industry.

The election reflects the Kingdom's commitment to playing a pivotal role in steering the tourism sector toward a sustainable future, especially in the current critical state affecting the industry and communities worldwide.

Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb expressed gratitude for the consistent support of the Saudi leadership toward the tourism sector and other vital industries.

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia's leadership role in the task force is a clear indication of its dedication to responsibly strengthen and expand the tourism industry in accordance with global standards.

Al-Khateeb said: "As a major supporter of these efforts, embodying the spirit of cooperation for sustainable global progress in the tourism sector, the Kingdom will collaborate with the team's member states and the organization to develop a strategy with clear features and goals, ensuring a bright future for the global tourism sector."

The "Redesigning Tourism for the Future" task force, initiated by Saudi Arabia and Spain, operates as a subsidiary body of the UNWTO Executive Council. Its objective is to formulate a road map for the future of global tourism.

Saudi Arabia's tourism sector has witnessed substantial growth, particularly after successfully hosting World Tourism Day in Riyadh.

The international event highlighted the Kingdom's role as a leading host of various tourism programs and events at the global level.
