Kingdom’s rejection of Security Council seat a brave decision

With regard to the report “Saudi snub stuns UN Security Council” (Oct. 19), I say well done Saudi Arabia for turning down the Security Council seat.

With regard to the report “Saudi snub stuns UN Security Council” (Oct. 19), I say well done Saudi Arabia for turning down the Security Council seat. The UN and the Security Council in particular are nothing more than a bunch of hypocrites who have no interest in sorting out issues concerning Muslims. Just think about issues such as Palestine, Kashmir, genocide in Serbia, the attack on Iraq in the name of nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, drone attacks on Pakistan, and the invasion of Afghanistan. Muslim countries should actually pull out of the United Nations all together. Saudi Arabia has the chance to unite and lead all Muslim countries and to help them to support each other against our united enemy of the West.

The UN is an impotent organization which only functions for the benefit of Israel. How many UN resolutions has Israel ignored? I salute Saudi Arabia’s brave decision. It’s time for Muslims to wake up.

What did Pakistan do when it was a nonpermanent member of the Security Council? The answer is nothing. We have to clear up our own mess which we have created by deliberate ignorance, illiteracy, and internal rivalries which have caused us to become a slave of the West. We have to get rid of our own weaknesses.

The Kingdom sees that the methods and work mechanism and the double standards on the Security Council prevent it carrying out its duties and properly shouldering its responsibilities in keeping world peace. This is an excellent stand taken by Saudi Arabia!
