NEW YORK — The permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil has expressed the Kingdom's dissatisfaction with the double standards and selectivity towards the crisis in Gaza.

“In light of the siege, killing, displacement, and the failure and inability of the international community, until this time, to call for a ceasefire and bring in the necessary humanitarian aid, I express the Kingdom’s deep disappointment for their hesitation towards supporting the right of the Palestinian people to enjoy a decent life, and their hesitation towards condemning the current humanitarian tragedy that the Palestinian are experiencing.” Al-Wasil said during his speech at the United Nations on Friday.

He pointed out that the current crisis in the region is the result of the failure of the international community to end the occupation and implement the two-state solution.

Silence over illegal Israeli practices, whether the practices that have been taken over the past 70 years, or during the recent period, is the reason that brought the region to the current crisis, Al-Wasil noted.

Al-Wasil confirmed what the Secretary-General of the United Nations said earlier about the necessity of recognizing that these attacks did not come out of nowhere, as the Palestinian people have suffered from a stifling occupation that lasted 65 years.

The ambassador also renewed the warning of the possibility of the conflict expanding, threatening all the peoples of the region and international peace and security.

He indicated during his speech that the organization is unable to carry out its assigned role, in addition to its delay in reaching a solution that addresses this crisis, even though maintaining international peace and security is at the forefront of its tasks.

He noted that all of this undermines confidence in the mechanisms of international legitimacy and the credibility of its defenders. “This will reflect negatively on the ability of all of us to maintain international peace and security.”

“It is time for the organization to fulfill the responsibilities for which it was established”, he said.

He called on the international community to take a firm and serious stance to stop the killing of civilians and end the siege, which would contribute to ensuring the rapid entry of humanitarian and relief aid, including food, medicine and water, without escalating the human tragedy.

He also stressed that the Saudi government is making intensive efforts to communicate with countries to find an urgent solution that will put an end to the escalation and end the ongoing and increasing cycles of violence in the region.

Saudi Arabia reiterates its demand to advance the peace process in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council, the UN, and the Arab Peace Initiative aimed at finding a just and comprehensive solution and establishing an independent State of Palestine based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
