MAKKAH — The ambulance teams of the Saudi Red Crescent in Makkah region have succeeded in dealing with a Sudanese pilgrim after she suddenly went into labor and then gave birth at the Grand Mosque.

The director of the Red Crescent branch in Makkah, Dr. Mustafa Baljoun said that the command and control room in the authority received a report on Monday at 12:05 a.m.

The report stated that a woman was suffering from abdominal pain in the western yard of the Grand Mosque next to the Al-Tawhid Hotel.

Upon arrival of the medical teams, they found that the woman was in labor as she was experiencing contractions and about to give birth.

He said that the woman's water had broken and the baby's head had already come out. He said the ambulance teams immediately assisted her in accordance with the protocol in such cases.

Dr. Baljoun indicated that the mother successfully delivered the baby. She and the newborn were immediately transferred to Ajyad General Hospital, confirming that both of them are in good health.

He stressed the importance of requesting the ambulance service when there is an emergency, by calling 997.

Furthermore, people can also request for an emergency service through the "Asefni" “أسعفني” application, or via the distress call in Tawakkalna app, which hold several features such as determining the caller's location with high accuracy.

This would facilitate the process of the ambulance team reaching the location of the report.
