RIYADH — Renowned Saudi academic Dr. Nawal bint Mohammed Alrasheed has been appointed acting president of Taibah University of Madinah.
The Saudi Council of Universities’ Affairs announced on Wednesday the issuance of the royal order to appoint Dr. Nawal as the new president of Taibah University. She is the first ever female president of a Saudi university.
Minister of Education and Chairman of the Council of Universities’ Affairs Yousef Al-Benyan congratulated Dr. Nawal, highlighting the confidence reposed in her by the higher authorities to appoint her as president of the university. He prayed to God to grant her success in serving and leading the nation.
In a statement on its X account, Taibah University and its entire staff congratulated Dr. Nawal on the occasion of her appointment.
Dr. Nawal served earlier in various capacities at the Riyadh-based Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, the world’s largest university for women. She was the deputy president for educational affairs and health affairs at the university. Dr. Nawal also served as dean of the faculty of pharmacy and member of the board of directors of the university
