Saudi FM stresses need for immediate ceasefire in Gaza  after meeting Jordanian and British counterparts

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met in Riyadh on Thursday with his Jordanian and British counterparts and discussed the situation in Gaza and its surroundings.

During his meeting with British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, the two sides reviewed Saudi-British relations, and ways to develop them in all fields.

The Saudi and British foreign ministers discussed the latest developments in Gaza, in addition to international efforts to end the crisis..

Prince Faisal stressed Saudi Arabia's position, which rejects targeting of civilians in any manner and underlines the importance of reaching an immediate cessation of military escalation.

The Saudi foreign minister also stressed the necessity of lifting the siege on Gaza, as well as securing safe corridors for the entry of relief and humanitarian aid to civilians.

Prince Faisal urged Britain, as a permanent member of the Security Council, to work to ensure that the Council fulfilled its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.

The Saudi minister also met in Riyadh with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi on the sidelines of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Preparatory Meeting for the Extraordinary Session of the Arab Summit.

During the meeting, they discussed the dangerous situation developing in Gaza and its surrounding, in addition to the continued harm that the unarmed civilians were experiencing due to the escalation of military operations.

The two foreign ministers discussed the importance of the international community playing its role to prevent the displacement of Gaza's population and prevent the military escalation.

The Saudi and Jordanian ministers discussed ways to intensify communication with active international parties to put pressure for an immediate cessation of military escalation.

It is also important to intensify communication in order to enable the delivery of relief supplies and medical equipment, in addition to finding a just, comprehensive and equitable solution that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people, they said.
