Crown Prince opens Saudi-CARICOM Summit in Riyadh

RIYADH — On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman opened the activities of the 1st Saudi - CARICOM Summit in Riyadh on Thursday.

Heads of state, presidents and high ranking officials of 15 CARICOM member countries are attending the summit, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and Dominican Prime Minister and CARICOM Chairman Roosevelt Skerrit.

At the outset of the summit, a commemorative group photo of the Crown Prince, heads of state and leaders of the CARICOM countries was taken. The official Saudi delegation attending the summit includes Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman; Minister of State and Member of the Council of Ministers Prince Turki bin Mohammed; Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal; Minister of the National Guard Prince Abdullah bin Bandar; Minister of Defense Prince Khalid bin Salman; Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan; Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet and National Security Advisor Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban, and Minister Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb.

The summit is discussing issues of mutual concern such as investments, trade, basic projects, hospitality, climate change, energy, and environmental sustainability. CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) is an intergovernmental organization, and political and economic union of 15 member states throughout Americas and Atlantic Ocean.

They have primary objectives to promote economic integration and cooperation among its members, ensure that the benefits of integration are equitably shared, as well as for coordination of their foreign policy.

The Riyadh-Caribbean Summit is the latest alliance that Saudi Arabia has built with countries around the world, in the context of its endeavor to diversify its sources of income, in accordance with Vision 2030, a brainchild of the Crown Prince
