RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has announced on Sunday the discovery of new natural gas fields in the Eastern Province and the Empty Quarter.
Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said that the Saudi Aramco was able to discover two natural gas fields in the Empty Quarter, as well as two other fields near Dhahran and Hofuf in the Eastern Province.
He said that Al-Hiran natural gas field was discovered in the Empty Quarter. Natural gas flowed from the Hanifa reservoir in the Al-Hiran - 1 well at a rate of 30 million standard cubic feet per day, and 1600 barrels of condensate. It was also discovered the flow of gas from Al-Arab - C reservoir in the same field at a rate of 3.1 million standard cubic feet per day.
The minister also announced the discovery of Al-Mahakeek natural gas field after gas flowed from the Al-Mahakeek - 2 well at a rate of 0.85 million standard cubic feet per day. Natural gas was also discovered in five reservoirs in previously discovered fields. These include the Jallah reservoir in the Asikra field in the Empty Quarter, after gas flowed at a rate of 46 million standard cubic feet per day, in addition to the discovery of an additional natural gas reservoir in the Shadun field west of the Markaz Haradh. Natural gas was discovered in the Unayzah-A reservoir after gas flowed at a rate of 15.5 million standard cubic feet per day, in addition to about 460 barrels of condensate.
Natural gas was also discovered in the Unayzah B/C reservoir in the Mazaleej field southwest of Dhahran, where gas flowed at a rate of 14 million standard cubic feet per day, accompanied by about 4150 barrels per day of condensate. Natural gas was also discovered in the Al-Sara reservoir in Al-Wodaihi field and Al-Qusaiba reservoir in the Awtad field southwest of the city of Hofuf.
Natural gas flowed from Al-Sara reservoir at a rate of 11.7 million standard cubic feet per day, and from Al-Qusayba reservoir at a rate of 5.1 million standard cubic feet per day, accompanied by about 57 barrels per day of condensate.
Prince Abdulaziz congratulated Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for these great achievements, asking God Almighty for bestowing continued security, safety and prosperity for the Kingdom and its people.
