DUBAI — The CEO of the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), Dr. Mohammed Al-Tamimi, chaired Saudi Arabia's delegation in the Space Agencies Leaders' Summit held in Dubai as part of the COP28 conference.

The summit shed light on the importance of increasing awareness regarding climate change, and the role of space technologies, technical solutions, and entrepreneurship in the space sector in confronting climate change.

Encouraging private investment and innovation in the space field, exploring opportunities to finance space and climate programs, as well as securing the necessary financial support for these initiatives were also highlighted.

Al-Tamimi stressed that Saudi Arabia stands with all countries committed to harnessing the power of space technology, which has emerged as a beacon of hope to monitor, understand and mitigate the environmental and climate challenges facing the entire world.

He also pointed out that the Kingdom's awareness of the importance of this global challenge made it embark on an ambitious journey to develop and disseminate innovative space solutions that would contribute significantly to building a more sustainable future.

Saudi Arabia is working on 66 initiatives to address climate change, Al-Tamimi said.

“Having this great power to confront climate and environmental changes and other challenges can only be achieved through a cooperative global approach,” Al-Tamimi said, adding that this requires unifying efforts to enhance the use of space technologies for monitoring and adaptation.
