KUWAIT CITY — The Kuwaiti Cabinet on Saturday named Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the Emir of the State of Kuwait, succeeding the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

In a statement released by the Kuwait News Agency, the government of Kuwait announced a three-day national holiday and a 40-day mourning period to commemorate the passing of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
