RIYADH — According to the 2022 land transport bulletin issued on Wednesday by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), there has been a notable 6.8% decrease in serious traffic accidents compared to 2021.

This improvement in road safety accompanies significant developments in Saudi Arabia's transport sector.

GASTAT also highlighted a substantial increase in public bus transportation usage, with the number of passengers within and between cities reaching over 43.5 million in 2022.

This marks a striking 233.9% rise from the previous year. Additionally, the total volume of domestic land freight saw an uptick, reaching 209 million tons in 2022, a 6.1% increase from 2021.

The bulletin further reported that the length of the paved road network in the Kingdom expanded to 266,000 kilometers in 2022, showing a growth of 1.6% over 2021.

GASTAT, serving as the sole official source for statistical data in Saudi Arabia, undertakes all statistical activities, including the technical oversight of the statistical sector.

Its responsibilities encompass designing and implementing field surveys, conducting statistical studies and research, analyzing data, and documenting and archiving all informational and statistical works related to various aspects of life in Saudi Arabia
