RIYADH — No one was hurt as a pedestrian bridge collapsed after hitting a poclain crane, carrying heavy equipment, on Prince Sultan Road in Khamis Mushait in the southern Asir region on Monday. The video of the accident went viral on social media while the authorities issued a state of alert after disruption of vehicular traffic on the road.

The Khamis Mushayt Mayoralty said in a statement that a heavy transport equipment loaded with a poclain crane, which was being carried on a truck, collided with the bridge, resulting in the partial collapse of the bridge on its right side.

It said that the accident occurred on Monday morning because of the violation of traffic regulation as the height of the equipment exceeded the permissible limit of 5.5 meters which led to hitting on the bridge and collapsing it.

The mayoralty urgently took all necessary measures to restore the traffic after removing the rubble of the entire existing bridge from the scene.
