Ukraine downs 14 Russian drones over Odesa

March 17, 2024

KYIV — Ukraine reported that it intercepted 14 out of 16 drones deployed by Russia over the southwestern region of Odesa.

In addition, Russia launched five S-300 guided anti-aircraft missiles aimed at the eastern regions of Kharkiv and Donetsk, alongside two Kh-59 guided air missiles targeting the northern region of Chernihiv, according to Ukraine's Air Force. The details regarding the impact of these missile attacks were not disclosed.

This aerial defense effort follows a missile attack on Odesa city, which resulted in at least 21 fatalities and injured more than 70 individuals on Friday. In response to these escalating hostilities, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a statement on Saturday, assured that Ukraine would enact a military retaliation against Russia. He emphasized the discovery of exploitable vulnerabilities within the Russian military forces, which Ukraine aims to target with its weaponry.

Concurrently, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had conducted strikes against the "temporary deployment areas of the Luth and Tsunami nationalist formations" in the vicinity of Odesa. — Agencies
