RIYADH
— At the World Economic Forum Special Meeting underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel participated in a pivotal panel discussion on the future of global health alongside notable figures such as Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Minister Al-Jalajel emphasized the crucial need for proactive approaches to combat health challenges exacerbated by climate change while underscoring the importance of coordinated global cooperation to effectively manage the impact of epidemics and health emergencies.

He highlighted how Saudi Arabia ensures effective sectorial collaboration through its ministerial committee for health, which integrates health, justice, and sustainability in all policy-making processes to elevate the Kingdom’s health status.

During the discussion, Al-Jalajel also spoke about the significant strides made toward eradicating polio globally, recognizing it as a symbol of hope and a testament to what can be achieved through sustained international cooperation. He noted the Kingdom's instrumental role in striving for a polio-free world.

Furthermore, Al-Jalajel addressed the urgent issue of antimicrobial resistance, describing it as a "silent epidemic" that demands immediate attention. He invited attendees to the fourth Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from November 15 to 16.

The minister also revealed a new memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Ministry of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This partnership aims to improve disease monitoring and diagnostics, provide safer health solutions, and boost the Kingdom's vaccine production capabilities. This collaboration is set to support low- and middle-income countries by enhancing access to affordable vaccines, including those for polio, thereby contributing to global pandemic preparedness and response.
