Two arrested after attempt to smuggle 27 kg of cocaine foiled at Jeddah Port

JEDDAH — Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 27 kilograms of cocaine, which was found hidden in a container carrying a consignment of potatoes coming to Saudi Arabia through the Jeddah Islamic Port.

In coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, two people, who were supposed to receive the seized items inside Saudi Arabia, were arrested.

ZATCA explained that during a routine inspection, the drug was found hidden inside the air conditioning duct of one of the containers.

ZATCA vowed to tighten customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports to achieve its most prominent strategic goal, which is to enhance the security and protection of society by preventing attempts to smuggle all prohibited items into the country.

The Authority receives reports related to smuggling operations in complete confidentiality, while it offers a financial reward to those who provide accurate information in their reports.
