May 26, 2024

BERLIN — German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, criticized Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip as violations of international law.

Speaking at the "Democracy Festival" in Berlin, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of the German Constitution, Habeck addressed public concerns about Germany's military support to Israel.

During a Q&A session, Habeck expressed that Germany has clearly stated its opposition to the attack on Rafah, emphasizing that such actions by Israel should not have occurred.

He stressed the need for Israel to adhere to international law, pointing out the severe impacts on the Palestinian population including famine and ongoing attacks in Gaza.

Habeck also mentioned that the conflict could potentially end if Hamas were to cease its military actions. — Agencies
