8 people rescued after building collapses in central Jeddah

— Security authorities have rescued 8 people and removed the danger for residents of a building that collapsed in Jeddah.

The accident damaged 13 apartments across 5 floors in the Al-Faisaliah district in central Jeddah. Rescue efforts to pull out trapped individuals continued until early Friday morning.

According to preliminary information, maintenance work inside the building's basement caused the collapse, Al-Arabiya.net reported. According to a statement from the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Jeddah, the collapse occurred in a building in the Al-Faisaliah district, and several people were rescued.

The neighborhood is densely populated with rental apartment buildings, home to both foreign nationals and Saudi citizens. The area is considered a semi-popular neighborhood in the Jeddah governorate.
