Heritage Commission holds workshop on results of archeological survey and excavation

— Heritage Commission held a workshop analyzing the results of the archeological survey and excavation work in 2023.

The workshop saw the Commission highlighting the recent archeological discoveries, which constituted an important addition to the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia and what distinguishes it in historical and cultural standing.

During the workshop, the participants discussed the most prominent results of archeological survey and excavation work carried out by Saudi scientific teams, as well as international teams under the supervision of the Commission, in addition to reviewing the annual report of archeological survey and excavation projects for 2023.

The efforts of the Heritage Commission in surveying and archeological excavation culminated in 72 scientific projects, in addition to registering more than 1,556 archeological sites during 2023 in the National Register of Antiquities. The works also resulted in discovering and documenting more than 1,900 stone structures of different areas, sizes, and shapes in various regions of Saudi Arabia, in addition to recording more than 7,600 rock facades containing human, animal, and plant drawings and inscriptions.

The Commission seeks to continue working, developing and expanding scientific projects, to achieve the goals of the National Strategy for Culture linked to the Saudi Vision 2030 for Antiquities, and to highlight its efforts in archeological survey, exploration and excavation work, which was characterized by fruitful cooperation with the commission’s partners from universities and government agencies.
